대표적인 기술 시장 분석 기관들이 바라보는 Internet of Things(IoT)에 대한 개념과 정의를 살펴 보기로 하자.
먼저 Gartner에서 정의한 IoT를 인용하면 다음과 같다.
"The internet of Things is the network of physical objects that contains embedded technology to communicate and sense or interact with the objects' internal state or the external environment."Gartner에서 정의한 IoT의 핵심은 주변의 physical object들이 컴퓨팅, 네트워킹 능력을 갖는다는 것과 이러한 physical object가 주변 환경에서 수집 혹은 object 자체의 상태정보를 공유한다는 것에 초점이 맞추어져 있음을 알 수 있다.
그럼 이번에는 IDC에서 정의한 IoT에 대한 개념을 인용해 보면 다음과 같다.
"The Internet of Things is a network connecting — either wired or wireless — devices, or things, characterized by autonomous provisioning, management, and monitoring. The IoT is innately analytical and integrated."

제품으로서의 공식적인 명칭은 "IBM Internet of Things Foundation"이 될 것이며, 본 Bootcamp Series를 통해 구축해 볼 Proof-of-Concept(PoC)의 전체 구조는 다음과 같다.
